The obstacles in our lives all depend on what our goals are. What might be an obstacle to one goal could actually be a help in attaining another goal.
However, if your goals in life are to walk in the greatness for which God has made you, then three things will be your biggest obstacles. Jesus describes these three in a famous story about a farmer sowing seed.
In this message, we explore how to overcome the obstacles of spiritual death and dryness, hardships, and distractions so that you can live a life of eternal fruitfulness.

Brit emailed this to me…
Just wanted to say thank you for the wonderful service. I am new to Jesus (although not new to spirituality, I have been exploring for many many years trying to find a relationship with God) and have been searching for a place that fits me. I was so happy to find your church. Your use of the Joshua Tree as a metaphor was really a selling point for me (as if you have to sell Jesus) but anyway I lived in 29 Palms, Ca for many years, worked at Joshua Tree National Park and saved (hopefully) many Joshua Trees as a biologist over the years. So that was a sign from God that I was in the right place. I will be going back to where my husband is stationed in Jacksonville, NC soon, so I hope that whenever I am back in Lafayette I can come and join for worship with you all. So I would like to keep in touch, and am so pleased you have podcasts of your sermons. I can listen at Camp Lejeune, just incase I don’t find a church that fits down there. Blessings to you and your vision.

Thank you for your encouragement Brit!
I was raised in Apple Valley, CA, and the Joshua Tree has always fascinated me. I hope I got my biological information correct! Does it really have those deep roots with the bulbs on the bottom?
If you are looking for some fresh perspectives on Christian spirituality, I’d like to recommend a couple books to you: Blue Like Jazz and Velvet Elvis. Check them out, and they might speak to you. Although, of course, I always recommend people get into the Bible first. For the fastest paced perspective on Jesus, you can’t beat the gospel of Mark, and for depth of insight, you can’t beat the gospel of John.
Say hi to me when you come back to town!
